Who can join AFJ?

Freelance journalists, stringers, and independent storytellers committed to ethical, public-interest journalism are welcome to apply. Fill out our membership application form to get started. Membership criteria and fees (if any) are confirmed during the application process.

Does AFJ offer safety support?

Yes. AFJ provides training and resources on physical and digital safety, assignment planning, and signposting for legal or psychosocial support. The depth of response may depend on capacity and the specifics of each case.

How do partners support AFJ?

Partners can contribute through funding, training collaborations, hosting workshops, or in-kind tools and expertise. We align projects with press freedom and community impact. See Donate for more.

Where is AFJ based?

AFJ operates from Nairobi with members and activities across Kenya and the wider region. Exact office and visiting hours can be requested via Contact.

How is AFJ governed?

What is TalkAfrica?

TalkAfrica (www.talkafrica.co.ke) is AFJ's online publication platform, amplifying stories from freelance journalists across Kenya and East Africa. AFJ members have opportunities to publish their work on TalkAfrica, reaching wider audiences with impactful, data-driven, and investigative reporting.
